Customizing a Trip: Hiding a Place

No two trips are alike. That's part of the adventure of travel! That's why Wandrous gives you several ways to modify a trip to meet your needs.

In this article we are going to look at the simplest trip modification you can make. It's non-destructive, can be applied to any trip, and can easily be reversed.

Hiding and Showing Trip Places

You can hide any place in a trip. It's easy.

First, display the trip. You can either choose the trip from the Trips list in the Explore screen; or you can tap the trip name in the Command Bar to display the current trip.

Next, longpress on the place you want to hide. From the popup menu tap Place..., then select Hide. The place is then hidden from the trip.

What is a "Hidden" Place?

What does "hidden" mean? Two things. First, the place no longer appears in the trip list, or on the map. Second, it means that the place is not monitored during a guided trip. So you can drive (or walk) right by the place and never receive notification from Wandrous.

Why would you want to do that? Well, take the Maui's Road to Hana Travel Book, and its trip, Road to Hana. There is simply no way you can make all of the stops in the Road to Hana trip in one day. So what you can do instead is view that trip, review each stop, then Hide those places you have decided you don't want to visit.

Then, when you start Trip Guiding for the Road to Hana, you only receive notifications for the places that are showing in the trip. You have customized the Road to Hana trip to exactly what you want it to be.

Showing Hidden Places

Once you hide any place in a trip, you will have a new menu option, Show All. Just select that option and all hidden places will be shown again. That's because the places are not deleted from the trip, just hidden.

An Example of Hiding a Place

How about a quick example? Let's look at the Charles Spring trail hike from the Lincoln National Forest Travel Book. Here is a page from that trip. One of the places is Bottom of Charles Spring Canyon. We're going to hide that place because we don't care about no stinking fences.

If we longpress on that line, we see the place menu popup. Tap Place...

Then from the next popup, tap Hide.

The result: the place is gone from the list, gone from the map, and won't bother you when you hike.

If you press your device Menu button, you will now have a Show All option. Tapping this restores the hidden place to its rightful, well, place, in the trip.
